We sat down with Ali Lord, founding member of Gala on the Green to discuss what this year’s ball has in store…

What is Gala on the Green?

Gala on the Green is a black tie charity ball raising money for youth homeless charity, Alone in London. Alone in London offers support to 16-25 year olds who are at-risk of homelessness by developing key skills and providing the resources they need to access and secure, safe and sustainable housing.

Where did the idea come from?

We started Gala on the Green because we saw an opportunity as young professionals to make a difference for those our own age who were less fortunate. The event originated in Brisbane in 2011 and through our personal and professional networks, we knew we could make a difference for the local Brisbane community. We’ve since seen the same impact we can make in London by supporting a local charity here with the same need for funding & awareness. By keeping the committee diverse through the industries we work in and the range of nationalities we represent, this allows us to tap in to a broad range of social networks – raising awareness of the issue we’re supporting while also allows for higher attendance at the event.

Where is the event this year?

We’re very excited to be hosting this year’s Gala on the Green at Geoffrye Museum in Hoxton with the official after party at a soon-to-be-revealed city venue.

Why is it different from the other black tie galas in London?

We keep it fun – we’re conscious we don’t want to create a formal / corporate setting and therefore we start the event off with a guitarist in the gardens as guests arrive, croquet to keep it playful & an espresso martini bar just to make sure guests are well looked after. The night continues with a variety of entertainment on offer, including a live band.

What can attendees expect?

You can expect this to be a black tie gala like no other. Don your finest tuxes and ballgowns for a evening of fun and frivolity, delicious canapés and bowl food. There will also be a range of fantastic prizes on offer through the raffle and live entertainment provided throughout the evening. This is a chance to let loose with your friends and to meet other like-minded young professionals.
