Restrictions in England begin to lift from Monday

The next relaxation of rules in England is on 29 March, with more restrictions to be lifted on 12 April and then every five weeks – as long as targets for beating coronavirus are met. Groups of six or two households will be able to meet outside and in private gardens.

This step in the roadmap takes us ever-closer to in-person events without restrictions from 21st June. Start planning yours here!

Hopin acquires two new businesses

Virtual events platform Hopin, which secured a $5.65bn valuation earlier this month, has acquired two new businesses — video hosting site Streamable and workplace video collaboration app Jamm. The technology from the two latest acquisitions will be integrated within Hopin’s current product to enhance its video features.

Hopin has been at the forefront of developments in virtual technology and these acquisitions solidify that position, showing that virtual interaction, remote collaboration and events are here to stay.

Councils encouraged to rebuild high streets with events

The Government has launched a new fund intended to boost England’s High Streets which includes a provision for events.

Part of the £56m Welcome Back Fund will be allocated specifically to support coastal areas to safely welcome holidaymakers in the coming months, but councils will also be able to prepare to hold events like street markets and festivals to support local businesses.

The move is encouraging as it hints that the Government are beginning to identify that events play a vital role in local economies.

#WeCreateExperiences launches B2C campaign

The B2C version of #WeCreateExperiences will launch on Tuesday 30 March. Organisers are asking event professionals to support the campaign on social media via the #WeCreateExperiences hashtag to spread the message that ‘together we can do this right’.

The consumer campaign aims to encourage end-users to feel inspired by the range of experiences the events industry can deliver. It will also offer reassurance that the industry can deliver events responsibly and safely in phases.

This campaign is vital on the road back to events, to provide confidence to those booking events who in-turn will support the recovery of the events industry.

Government confirms venue site visits are permitted

The government has confirmed that venue site inspection visits will be permitted from 29 March. These site visits can take place even if the venue is otherwise closed.

However, site visits where there is not a ‘permitted exemption for work purposes’ or otherwise for instance leisure, should not be taking place in closed venues until further restrictions have been lifted.

We’ll be back next month with all the latest from the events industry and beyond.
