2022 is set to be one of the biggest and most exciting years ever for weddings. In fact, Yahoo has predicted that around 2.5 million weddings will take place over the course of 2022 in the United States – and we can certainly expect a similar volume on Australian shores. The wedding industry is preparing for weddings postponed from 2020 and 2021, as well as accommodating the newly engaged couples who are planning for the year ahead. Here’s what events expert Rebekah Walsh of This Space Weddings says we can expect from 2022 weddings:

Intimate Weddings

Smaller, more intimate weddings have risen in popularity since the beginning of the pandemic and are predicted to continue trending throughout 2022. Density limits, restrictions and even travel constraints have made intimate spaces the venue of choice for many couples – cosy restaurants, private rooftops, garden settings and other more private locations are likely to see an influx of bookings for weddings throughout 2022. Intimate weddings also mean couples can more easily intertwine their couple story into the day. Rebekah says that this element of personalisation starts with save-the-dates and invitations and can extend to the food served on the big day as well. “Recreating a symbolic meal to the couple as part of the menu for the evening, or including a meaningful champagne for the evening’s toast” are some of the ways Rebekah suggests adding personal charm to the wedding.

Colour, Colour, Colour

Pantone has named the 2022 colours of the year and Rebekah reports that weddings will be all about these hues over the next year. The gorgeous blue-green shade Cascade paired with pops of Coral Rose against a neutral palette makes for a dreamy combination for weddings of all kinds. Colour experts report that Cascade evokes a sense of freshness, while Coral Rose brings to the table a level of romanticism and energy. Rebekah suggests adding in these colours using napkins or stationery on the table, like menus and place cards.

Weekday Weddings

In years past, weekend weddings have been the norm – but that’s set to change. 2022 is expected to be the year of weekday weddings. The coming year is set to see the largest number of weddings since 1984, says Rebekah, so venues are filling up quickly. Planning for a weekday allows couples exponentially more flexibility with dates that will suit their friends and family. Plus, there’s the obvious perk of saving a significant amount of money when booking a venue for a weekday rather than a weekend.
