Shoreditch Town Hall: A little bit of history
From the majestic Assembly Hall, to its intimate warren of basement spaces, The Ditch, Shoreditch Town Hall has a range of spaces and options for your Christmas party.
When Shoreditch Town Hall opened its doors in 1866, it was one of the grandest Vestry Halls and its ambitious founders wanted the building to embody their progressive values. Until the 1960s, the Town Hall operated as the centre of local democracy and civic life in East London.
This historic London venue also played an important role in the East End’s working-class culture, first as a Music Hall in the late 19th and early 20th Century, then as a boxing venue from 1955 to 1975. Shoreditch Town Hall has seen and done it all.
Now a flagship independent arts, community and live events venue, the Town Hall boasts a number of stunning and unique spaces perfect for a range of events.
Shoreditch Town Hall at Christmas
Shoreditch Town Hall is one of our favourite options for Christmas party venue hire in London. There are plenty of great Christmas packages to choose from.
A starter Christmas package, for example, includes exclusive hire of the Assembly Hall and Old Servery, as well as £10,000 worth of sound and lighting equipment, hire of the in-house bar service and a full entertainment license.
As if that wasn’t enough, you can upgrade your Christmas package to include enhanced production and design services, as well as late licences and staffing hire. So you can throw the biggest bash of the year at Shoreditch Town Hall.
The in-house event management options at Shoreditch Town Hall mean all the stress of organising this year’s Christmas party is lifted from your shoulders. The venue is also always flexible and accommodating for clients who want to organise their own catering, production or staffing.
Now you know a little more about what Shoreditch Town Hall has to offer, here’s a bit more information about some of the greatest Spaces at the venue that are perfect for the festive season.
Now for the largest event Space at Shoreditch Town Hall, The Assembly Hall. This Space is an ideal location for Christmas parties, product launches, conferences, corporate dinners and other events where you can have a maximum capacity of 770 Guests.
The high ceilings, Italian marble panelled walls, Matcham style balcony and glorious architectural features give the Assembly Hall a distinctive feeling of grandeur and elegance.
The Assembly Hall is regularly used for a range of theatre and live performances. The possibilities are endless.
The Council Chamber was once the original Vestry Hall for Shoreditch Town Hall. This Space is arguably the most architecturally significant one, featuring an original highly ornate moulded ceiling, floor to ceiling columns and stained glass windows; the perfect backdrop for an event you want to be remembered.
Located on the ground floor, the Council Chamber is a flexible Space ideal for parties and receptions. There’s a maximum capacity of 200 Guests for this Space so it’s ideal for hosting the annual office Christmas party.
But this Space isn’t just good for the festive season: the Council Chamber is also used frequently for conferences, launches and talks and can be hired as a singular room, breakout Space, or complemented by the Mayor’s Parlour, the adjacent Space.
Last but certainly not least, we have the most unusual event Space at Shoreditch Town Hall: the Ditch is the untouched basement of the Grade II listed building.
A dozen interconnecting rooms with original features, exposed brickwork and pipes, fireplaces and stoves provide a unique and intimate setting for any event.
With its own secret, speakeasy entrance on Old Street, the Ditch is an exclusive warren of Spaces to transform this festive season. Despite its ‘abandoned’ aesthetic, The Ditch has full production capabilities and remains as flexible and responsive as the rest of the building; a transformable Space that can hold up to 120 Guests.
The Ditch at Shoreditch Town Hall can also be completely transformed to create an immersive setting for memorable product launches, creative fundraising events, unique receptions, conference breakout spaces and even private dining.
As you can see, whether it’s the Victorian grandeur of the Assembly Hall or the intimate warren of untouched basement Spaces, The Ditch, Shoreditch Town Hall is bound to have a Space that’s right for you.
